The Chui region (Kyrgyzstan: Chui oblusu) is located in the northern part of Kyrgyzstan, formed as the Frunze region on November 21, 1939 by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, abolished in 1959. It was restored from areas of republican subordination in 1990 under its modern name.

Location of the Chui Valley The Chu River flows there, hence the name. The Chui Valley, 250 kilometers long, is limited by the Chu-Ili Mountains and the Kyrgyz Ala Too. The width of the southeastern part of the valley is 10-15 km, the northwestern part is 100 km. The area of the valley is about 140 thousand hectares.
