Look at my project about the snow
leopard. Why are snow leopards endangered?
How many are there in Kazakhstan today?
An endangered animal
My favourite endangered animal is the snow leopard. It's a beautiful big cat, the
king of the mountains! Snow leopards have a soft grey or yellowish coat with dark
rosettes and spots. Their strong legs help them jump as far as 15 metres and their
long tails help them balance on steep
rocks. They prefer to be alone.
Snow leopards inhabit 12 countries
in the world. There are only about
200 species in Kazakhstan. They are
endangered because of poaching and the falling numbers of prey
animals like blue sheep, argali and mountain goats. The snow
leopard is protected in the Aksu-Dzhabagly, Almaty and Markakol
Reserves. In Kazakhstan the snow leopard is on the coat of arms
of Almaty
