It was a strong rain when Peter left school. He had been looking forward to going home all day, but now he was worried about how he was going to get there. Peter's house was a few miles away, and he usually walked, but the rain was so heavy that he knew he wouldn't make it without getting soaked.
As he stood outside the school gates, trying to decide what to do, he saw a familiar face. It was his neighbor, Mrs. Jones, who was just getting out of her car.
"Peter, dear, are you okay?" she asked, seeing the look on his face. "You look like you're about to drown."
"I'm fine, Mrs. Jones," Peter said, trying to sound cheerful. "I just don't know how I'm going to get home in this rain."
Mrs. Jones smiled and said, "Well, you're in luck. I was just on my way home, and I have plenty of room in my car. Why don't you hop in and I'll give you a ride?"
Peter was overjoyed at the offer. He thanked Mrs. Jones profusely and quickly ran to the car, grateful to be out of the rain. As they drove, Peter couldn't help but feel grateful for Mrs. Jones's kindness. It just goes to show, he thought to himself, that even in the worst of weather, there are still good people in the world.
