Sochi is a resort city in Russia, situated on the North-Eastern coast of the Black sea (black sea coast of Russia) in Krasnodar Krai, at a distance of 1700 km from Moscow. Together with the urban village of Krasnaya Polyana, near rural settlements located on the southern slopes of the Main Caucasus ridge forms a municipal Union the city-resort of Sochi, also informally known as greater Sochi. Sochi is the largest resort city in Russia[7], an important transportation hub[8][9][10][11], as well as major economic and cultural center of black sea coast of Russia[12][13]. Also informally referred to as summer, southern and resort "capital" of Russia. In 2012, Forbes magazine recognized Sochi best city for doing business in the country[14]. Permanent urban population of Sochi — 389 946[2] people (2015) and the municipal formation the city-resort Sochi — 467 681[2] people (2015). The population of Sochi is a 5-th place among the cities of the southern Federal district — after Rostov-on-don (1 114 806[2]), Volgograd (1 017 451[2]), Krasnodar (829 677[2]), Astrakhan (532 699[2]); and 49-th place in Russia. Among the cities on the Black sea Sochi occupies the 3rd place in the number of residents, yielding Odessa and Samsun and a little ahead of Sevastopol, Varna and Trabzon. Sochi is the longest city in Russia[15][16]. In 2007 Sochi was selected to host the XXII winter Olympic games. 15 September 2009 Sochi has joined the world Union of Olympic cities[17]. In the period of preparation for the Olympic games on the city and its infrastructure was spent 500 billion[18].
