Hello Liza,
Thanks for your last letter. It was very interesting, so I read it twice.
And now I want to tell you about my visiting of my dad's working place. He works as a carpenter at a factory that produces furniture. I was fascinated by this excursion because I saw lots of machinery and tools used for production of furniture. I have never thought that the process of making furniture is so complicated. People of different professions work there. Suppliers of timber, loaders, carpenters, painters, assemblers, decorators are the names of the occupations that I remembered during visiting there. The factory itself is very big and covers more that 2 square kilometres. It is divided into shops which work depends on one another.
The thing I liked the most about the factory is how people working in different shops interact. Every worker knows what he or she has to do and how to intensify the working process. Moreover, some of the workers have more than one occupation, thus they can substitute their colleagues working in different shops. This kind of mutual understanding of all operations done in different places helps to boost productivity and keep the process of making furniture permanent.
You know, I was enthused by the work of furniture designers. While watching their work I understood that they perform a work of a specialized field in creation of things where function and fashion collide. One has to have a fantasy and creative thinking to make new fashionable things that match so good with modern furniture. Apart from that, a designer has to know a lot about various materials such as metal, glass and plastic and how to combine them in the most attractive and safe way. So, I am seriously thinking of becoming a furniture designer ! Well, I think, that's all.
Looking forward to your reply,
