I would like to talk about my favourite holiday, the New Year. The 1st day of January is marked as a national holiday but people usually start celebrating this holiday on the 31st of December . People prepare for this holiday beforehand. They usually decorate the New Year Tree with toys, sweets, lights and so on. The New Year is mostly celebrated in the family circle. But more often the relatives are invited for this holiday. They give each other all kinds of presents. Sweets, candies, cookies, money and toys are especially popular. At 12 o'clock people sit at the table, eat traditional food for this holiday. The tables groan with traditional dishes such as the famous Russian salad Olivier, Beetroot salad, meat, mashed potatoes and so on. People watch TV and say best wishes to each other. Then they can dance, sing, make jokes or just go for a walk with their friends and set off fireworks.
