At five the phone rang.
I answered the phone, “Hello.”
“Hi, Peter!”
“Fudge! Where are you?”
“Guess ...”
“The train station?”
“No.”
“The bus station?”
“No.”
“ The police station?”
“No. Do you give up?”
“Yes ... where are you?”
“A t Sandy’s Bakery.”
“You rode down the highway?”
“ It was easy.”
“ Is Daniel with you?”
“Yes.”
Mum took the phone. “Fudge, my angel! I ’m so happy
you’ re all right!”
We jumped into the car. We found Dad and Mrs Manheim
near the lake. We told them where Fudge and
Daniel were. We all drove to the bakery. Fudge and
Daniel were near the bakery. Mum jumped out of the
car and hugged Fudge. “ I ’m so happy to see you!”
When we came back to our house, Mum said,
“You know that what you did today was wrong.”
“And dangerous,” Dad said.
“And stupid!” I said.
“We ’re very happy to see you,” Mrs Manheim said,
“but we’ re very angry, too!”
“We should punish you,” Dad said.

Yes, I think the parents were right when they decided to punish Fudge. Fudge and Daniel were not supposed to go to Sandy’s Bakery on their own. They didn't tell anybody about their plan and their poor parents were worried — Fudge's dad and Daniel's mum thought the boys had gone to the lake.
