David T

I live out in the country with my family, and we all try to use our bicycles or go on public transport instead of getting in the car. People ask us how we manage, but it’s not too bad. In fact, Dad says he wants to sell the car next year and not have one at all.

2 Alice

We don’t buy any plastic bottles but we ask all our friends to give us their bottles instead of taking them to be recycled at the bottle bank. We cut the tops and bottoms off and use them in the garden. They’re great for protecting any small plants my mum has got.

3 James

We live in a village and there are lots of forests around us so we’re very lucky because we can go out and look for branches that have blown down. We would never cut wood, but if it’s on the ground, then we pick it up and burn it in our wood burner.

4 Stephen

I went on a course last year which was all about living off the land. It’s amazing how much is out there. The obvious things are mushrooms and berries but there are also a lot of wild plants which you can use and the best thing is that they don’t cost anything.

5 Julia

We’re vegetarians, but we keep chickens for their eggs and we feed them with our leftover food. So basically, we don’t throw any food away because we give it to the chickens. It works really well, I think!
