JanineLicare was onlynineyears old when shedecided to takeaction. She was worried because the rainforest around her home in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica, was disappearing. The animals and birds were disappearingtoo. So, together with a friend, Janine started a campaign to protect herlocal environment. Theycalled it KidsSavingtheRainforest.
The aimsof KidsSavingtheRainforest are to teach childrenabout the rainforestand to help the animals that live there, especiallytheendangered MonooTitimonkey.
Janine has achieveda lot. She has raised more than $50,000
planted over4,800 trees
found over250 volunteersto work with her helped manyinjured birds and animals
started avarietyofdifferent projects, such as‘Adopt-a-tree’ worked with other schoolchildren around the world
developed anenvironmental libraryand researchcentre.
