Joe and I are mates because we had/have/are having a lot in common. We often spend/are often spending/have been often spending a lot of time together, just hanging out, playing computer games, and making jokes. He’s not perfect, of course. He always does/will always do/is always doing really stupid things, but it doesn’t matter. We’re friends – friends for life.
