Jules Verne is a famous author who was born in Nantes, France in 1828. He is well known for hisscience-fictionnovels as ‘Around the World in Eighty Days' and 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.'

Verne’s father wanted him to follow in his footsteps as a lawyerand sent him to Paris, to study law. But, the young Verne fell in love with literature.

He worked assecretary  for several years but he continued to write, to do research at the National Library. He never stopped to dream of a new kind of novel—one that wouldcombinescientific fact with adventure fiction.

Jules Verne hit his stride as a writer after meeting Pierre-Jules Hetzel, who agreed to publish the first of Verne’s“ExtraordinaryJourneys”. The novel became an international best seller, and Hetzel offered Verne a long-term contract toproduce many more works of “scientific fiction.”

During the 20th century Verne’s works were translated into more than 140 languages, making him one of the world’s most translated authors.

His works are popular not only in literature and film industry, but also in the world of science and technology. In 1954 the United States Navylaunched  the world’s first nuclear-powered submarine, named for Verne’s Nautilus. He inspired a lot of adventurers to travel around the world in record-breakingtime like the main character in his book. Verne and his brilliant works continue to remind us that “What one man can imagine, another will someday be able to achieve.”
