During the First World war Ernest served as anambulance driver and was wounded on the Austro-Italian front. After the war,devoted himself entirely to literature. He traveled much, was fond of mountainskiing, hunting, fishing. After the war, Hemingway went to Cuba, andresumed his creative activity. He continued to travel and in 1953 in Africabecause he was involved in a serious crash.He became the winner of the Pulitzerand Nobel prize for literature. He was married four times. After coming to power in Cuba Fidel CastroErnest returned to the United States, Idaho.Last years of his life he sufferedfrom severe depression, and later he had a serious disease of the liver. On 2 July 1961 Ernest committed suicide. Hemingway was buried in Cuba, where he lived the last years, then his house wasconverted into a Museum.
