Kiev is the capital of our Motherland, a very large and oldest city on the banks of the Dnieper. From the "Tale of Bygone Years" I know the legend of the foundation of Kiev by the three brothers Kiy, Shchek and Horeb and their sister Lybedya on the hill above the Dnieper, now called Starokievskaya. The elder brother, Kiy, became the prince of the Polyan tribe and, according to the chronicler Nestor, was the first to reign in Kiev, around the second half of the 5th century. Having conquered Kiev in 882, prophetic Oleg, as the Tale of Bygone Years tells, said: "Let this city be the mother of Russian cities." That's probably all I knew about the city, where I was going to spend a whole week. On the first day of my stay in Kiev, I was convinced that this is a city with developed industry, modern residential areas, amazing historical monuments. Much remained in it from that legendary city, which struck numerous foreign guests with its power and splendor. You can wander for hours on its streets, squares and admire. My uncle and aunt introduced me to this wonderful city for a week. Where I just did not go: on Independence Square, in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, in the botanical garden, in the hydropark, at the Exhibition of People's Economic Achievements, and even climbed the funicular. I admired the St. Sophia Cathedral, built by Yaroslav the Wise, strolled along the Mariinsky Park, where the residence of the President of Ukraine is located - the Mariinsky Palace, and next to it is the building of the Verkhovna Rada.
