A microprocessor is an integrated circuit (IC) that
performs many of the functions found in
a digital computer. A single microprocessor IC is capable of performing all the
arithmetic and control functions of a computer. By itself, a typical
microprocessor IC does not contain the memories and input/ output (I/O)
functions of a computer. However, when these functions are provided with
additional ICs, a microcomputer is formed.
