Starting plane.
with the tide pushing people away from the line? look for opportunities to make a good port tack start or a late entry one at the starboard end. Or, with a good transit, a good start out of the middle.
General recall time! get the best out of the ends. When the one-minute or five-minute disqualification rule comes in, get a good start out of the middle if there is a good transit. Otherwise, stay at one end or the other, depending on which is the favoured side of the beat.
Use the tide to cram the starboard end of the line with more freedom in the port half or quarter of the line.
Use the tide/current to overcrowd and jam up the port end. A late entry could be made at the starboard end if this is the fovoured end and/ or you wish to go right op the beat.
Summary.
Race strategy is a fairly complex subject. However, as long as you take the time to study the theory and then apply it, together with your good boat speed and your ability to point in the right direction, then you should be among the chocolates at the end of the race! To quote a well-used phrase, It does not really matter where you are at the start of a race, what matters are where you are at the finish!
