The ninth Special Olympics World Summer Games were held in New Haven, Connecticut, from 1 to 9 July 1995, and 7,200 mentally handicapped athletes from 143 countries took part in these Games which included 17 Olympic-type sports. I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to congratulate the political and athletic authorities in Athens on being the host to the Summer Games in the year 2004.
