David Garrick, a talented ACTOR of his time, was responsible for the ORGANISING of the first festival. The year was 1769 and the first play was scheduled to begin at 6 o'clock in the morning on the 6th of September. Stratford-upon-Avon was very CROWDED that morning and the opening of the festival was extremely SUCCESSFUL. The second day of the festival was RAINY though, and the people who had come to see the plays left DISAPPOINTED to return to their homes.
