Puerto Ricans
demonstrate a strong feeling of love for their children. Obedience and
respect for parental authority are stressed in traditional  Puerto
Rican families. Children are not allowed to question or
challenge their parents. First-generation parents do not assign rights to
children; they make most decisions for their children. Corporal punishment, it
not excessive , is accepted as a disciplinary approach.

In Vietnam, children are considered to
be a year old at birth. Sons are valued more than daughters. The eldest son is
responsible for performing ancestor worship at home. Siblings are usually segregated
by sex. The Vietnamese child is trained to think of the family and to subjugate
personal desires and concerns.

              Native American children are reared
by the extended family, clan, or tribe, with grandparents and other elders
usually responsible for teaching the children. Children are given a great deal
of freedom and are allowed to explore and be independent quite early in their
lives. Disliking a show of temper,
Native Americans rarely discipline their children unless real danger
exists, believing that a child should be allowed to make mistakes and learn the
natural consequences of misbehaviour.
