-Japanese painting style is just as unique, as the whole culture. Japanese painting style is based on continental currents, namely Chinese, Korean and pure Japanese style. In ancient times, the Japanese used to assemble brushes by hand. The most expensive brush was from sheep fur. They made their paintings with mostly ink. Japanese ink is called Sumi ink. Later Japanese landscapes became a favorite theme for Japanese people. This style was unrepeatable and magnificent. One of the most respected Japanese artist is Katsushika Hokusai. His most famous painting is The great wave of Kanagawa. Hokusai is also the artist who gifted the world with Manga art. Also a rememberable artist was Ando Hiroshige. It is known that the famous Van Gogh painted several copies of his prints. In todays world Contemporary Japanese artist Takashi Murakami is one of the most well known artists. He created the famous smiling flowers that later became one of Louis Vuitton's most famous prints. He’s often callef “The Warhol of Japan”.
