About 4000 years ago, the Eastern shore of the Mediterranean sea became an excellent home for the tribes, which then the Greeks called the Phoenicians. From the beginning, the country of Phoenicia occupied a small part of the territory between the Lebanese mountains and the sea. There was excellent land to grow grapes and olives. Nearby were the slopes of the mountains and thickets of Lebanese cedar. Cedar was considered at that time quite valuable and strong wood, so the Phoenicians decided to build ships from it. Their ships were so strong that they were not afraid of hurricanes or storms. Thanks to their ships and the best sailors for the Phoenicians and secured the glory of excellent sailors. Ships had compartments for prisons, which were slaves-rowers.

Phoenicians explored the entire Mediterranean sea, swam in the Atlantic ocean, near the shores of Africa and Europe. They were among the first to make the journey around all of Africa. But it was not only trade in goods that forced the Phoenicians to travel by sea. Among them were robbers and pirates who plundered ports and settlements. There were sailors who lured young children to their ship and took them away for sale. A valuable commodity could be traded for such children. Still, thanks to its ships, Phoenicia was quite strong and leading Maritime power. None of the travelers and traders could not compare with the Phoenicians in the amount of goods brought. They were always superior. Fortified ships and more compartments for goods allowed the Phoenicians to trade with many peoples and countries, going far beyond their state.

They lent to many of the rulers of the neighboring States and extracted wealth in any way. Many places were able to get to the Phoenicians, turned into their colony. One of the most famous colonies of Phoenicia was Carthage. Over time, this city began to obey other colonies, and even the peoples who lived at that time in Africa. The colonies of Carthage brought profit, it gave impetus to the sailors to go beyond Gibraltar. Phoenicians visited the coast of England, where they mined tin, here, by exchange, received valuable amber. Many Phoenician cities, with the support of Israel and Egypt, gathered sea expeditions, exploring new places and opening more and more trade routes. Sailors continued to improve their ships, they became faster and stronger than anyone else. Phoenicians took people into slavery, took away goats and sheep, stole children. Their state did not care. But over time, the cedar of Lebanon was almost cut down, and other States made their ships even better and more powerful. The Phoenician state lost its power and gradually disappeared
