Working at SAS Institute:
Happy Employees Make a Good Business
by Susanne Pollastri
I love my job at SAS Institute in Cary, North Carolina. I work there as a programmer. Our company makes computer programs for other companies. The money is good and I like my job. There are many reasons why I love working there.
First of all, it’s a happy place. Employees can work on different things. Everyone works hard, and everyone is nice. Also, we never work late. I always go home at 5.00 p.m. But we always finish our work!
The benefits are great. I have a two-year-old daughter. Thanks to a free child care program, I always bring my daughter with me to the office – and I usually eat lunch with her.
I have a healthy breakfast and lunch at SAS. There are three cafeterias, and they serve many different foods including sandwiches, salads, meats, and vegetables. The vegetables are always fresh. In one of the cafeterias, someone usually plays the piano at lunchtime. It’s great! We can also get free snacks and drinks when we want them. I’m never hungry at work!
Also, there’s a big gym at the office. I sometimes exercise at the gym for an hour before work. When I'm sick, or when my daughter's sick, I visit the doctor at the office. Visits to the doctor are free. The SAS president, Jim Goodnight, thinks that a company does well when it has happy, healthy employees. I think he’s right!
