First Time Travelling on a Train!
Task 1. Read the passage below and then answer the questions:
I am excited that you and Brenda are coming to Middlesbrough to visit us. I know that this is the first time you
will be using a train, so I will tell you exactly what to do. I have just checked the train timetable for next Monday,
and I have found a train from London to Newcastle which will take about three and a half hours. The express
train leaves King's Cross platform 4 at 10.30 in the morning and arrives at Newcastle at around 1.30. You then
have to take another train from Newcastle to Middlesbrough. You have to stand at platform 2 and take the 2.00
o'clock train, which will take an hour and twenty minutes. It is always a good idea to buy your tickets online
because it is a bit cheaper, the fare on that day for a return ticket is £110. Don't forget to leave your house in
good enough time to get to the railway station or else you will miss your train. Once you are on the train, leave
your big suitcase in the luggage hold and have your e-tickets ready for the ticket inspector to see. If you feel
hungry on the way, your train has a buffet car where you can have something nice to eat. Enjoy the beautiful
countryside scenery on the way, and you will be going through several long dark tunnels which are very exciting. I
wish you a beautiful journey, and I will be waiting for you at Middlesbrough railway station just before three
o'clock. We will go straight to Nando's for late lunch with Sarah, Jo and Lilly.
1. Where are these two people going?
2. How much is the fare?
3. Where should they put their big suitcase?
4. Who should they show their tickets to?
