Russia has always been a world leader in the development of new technologies. Recently Russia has made progress in the development of robotics. The first big success came in 2003 thanks to Arne and Arnea-androids men and women, or humanoid robots. They were designed by students from St. Petersburg University and a company called New Era. These androids were able to walk, talk, avoid obstacles, to understand orders and to remember the objects and colors. In 2004, the team from St. Petersburg University, using technology Arne and Arnea, won the championship Robocop in Portugal. RoboCop is a competition in which androids play football against each other.
