The Quakers are members of a religious sect who believe in peace. They think that any war is wrong. About two hundread years ago there was war between English colonists and Red Indians. But though the war was going on all round them, the Quakers took no part in it. One day, while men, women and little children were sitting and praying, some Indians who were on the war-path came and looked in. They meant to kill all the men they could catch. They found a lot of them unarmed, their women and children with them. The Quakers and Indians looked at each other. Nobody moved or said anything. They all sat and went on praying. The Indians were very much amazed. The peace of the room changed the plans of Indians. They all sat down and joined in Quakers' prayer. Then they stood up and went away with peace. They did not touch anybody.
