Sport is an important part of our life. There are many kinds of sport, like football and hockey, which you can see on television or at the stadium. People play different games in their free time: tennis, volleyball, badminton, basketball… But not all sportsmen need to be very strong and tall. Some of them have good legs, others have a lot of stamina. Such people usually take part in long-distance races like triathlons or marathons.
Some popular sports are swimming, skiing, skydiving, mountain climbing, horse riding, cycling, surfing, golfing, martial arts, athletics, squash, gymnastics, jogging. Sportsmen practise such sports for pleasure – they do it because they enjoy doing it. Others play sports professionally. They perform competitions and try to win money prizes. Most professional sportsmen work as coaches after retiring from playing, but some continue practising other kinds of sport too.
