Тwo days before our cruise started I had already packed my suitcase. I could hardly sleep the night before, but at last the morning came. Just before I left the house, I received the card from my cousin wishing me a good trip. Then I took my suitcase and went, with my mother, to the school where we had to meet the rest of our party.The coaches which were to take us to the sea port were already waiting at the school. The teachers who were coming with us were checking our names on lists and handing out labels for our luggage. When we got to our ship, steamship Devona, everyone looked at her with excitement; we couldn’t wait to get on board. After the ship’s officers had checked our passports, we were shown to our cabins. There were 15 bunks (beds) in each of them. The bunks were in threes. I slept in the top one.We unpacked our things and went on deck to watch the ship sailing away from the port.The first day on the ship was very interesting. Everyone wanted to explore the ship. It was quite big and had a marvelous swimming pool. Later we were allowed to go on the captain’s bridge.Every morning we had the lectures or films about the next port we were to call at. Then we wrote down what we had done on the previous day in a diary. There was a prize for the best one at the end of a trip. We also had two lessons in the morning (History and Geography) and in the afternoon we played games or went swimming.Nearly every night there was dancing. We had to go to bed at 10 and get up at 8.There were many shore excursions at the four ports which the ship visited.
