The Composer Gaziza Zhubanova (1927 - 1993) was the first Kazakh female composer. Her father Akhmet Zhubanov was a famous musician, too. When she was 18, she went to Moscow to study at the Gnesin Music College and the Moscow Conservatory. Then she returned to Kazakhstan and in 1975 she became director of the Almaty Conservatory.
