My family starts New Year celebrations a week before New Year's Day when we begin to decorate our home with string lights, garlands, glittering tinsels and bright balloons.
Another tradition of ours is to decorate a real fir-tree, not a plastic one, because we like its smell and because it is less harmful to the environment. (Real New Year trees are completely biodegradable and recyclable, but fake trees made from plastic and steel require more energy to produce and they can't be recycled.) We love to decorate our tree with tree LED lights, beaded garlands or ribbons, and colourful ornament balls.
The next tradition is to prepare New Year presents. We usually put them into special boxes or in wrapping paper and place them under the New Year tree.
Our New Year meal is also an important tradition. My mum and I always cook a very sophisticated dinner, including some elaborate dishes and a cake. My grandparents usually come to our place, and they also put their presents under the tree.
Just before midnight at 11.55 pm our president addresses all the people with his New Year speech. Then we listen to the chiming clock counting down the last seconds of the year. After that we sing songs, dance together or watch New Year music shows on TV. Late at night we start to open our presents. I love this moment! I usually get a lot of great things.
