What does Britain look like?

1) English is the main language there but Irish Gaelic (a Celtic language) is spoken too. Two universities in Northern Ireland offer degree courses and research in Gaelic.

2) Road signs are in both English and Welsh. On television, Channel 4 shows programmes in Welsh.

3) Scots Gaelic (an ancient Celtic language) is still spoken today by 80,000 people.

4) English is the official language. It’s also used as official language in more than sixty other countries.

5) It’s in the north-east England. It’s on the river Tune. It’s dialect is known as Geordie. It retains many elements of the old language. An example of this is pronunciation: “house”- “hoos”, “cow”-“coo” and others.

6) It’s in the Midlands, on the small river Rea. The local dialect is called Brummie. Ozzy Osbourne is known for his Brummie accent. Many celebrities speak with this accent.
