1. The summer holidays are approaching and I am trying to decide where I should go this year. 2. Shoes and sandals don’t just look good on the outside this season. What’s inside matters, too. Fashion designers are even dressing up the insides of shoes with playful patterns! 3. You look tired. Do you work overtime these days? 4. The situation seems to be under control. I believe we can go home now. 5. Parents may think that their teenagers are rebellious, but what teenagers are actually doing is ‘asserting their identities’. Although teenagers say they want freedom, we must remember that they still need parental supervision. 6. When I look around and stop to think about life in the big city, I often wonder, ‘Where do we all go? What’s the rush?’ 7. I am planning a farewell party for Martin and I need your help. 8. “BIKE RIDE TO SAVE RAINFOREST”
1. Today, an environmental organisation called Friends of the Earth organises a sponsored bike ride to raise money to save the Amazon rainforest. 2. Altogether about 1,000 people take part in this bike ride. 3. Participants in similar bike rides usually compete in 40-mile races, but some are more ambitious and 4. go on long rides that cross a number of countries. 5. One of the cyclists told us: “I do not do this ride today just because I like cycling. Rainforests 6. are disappearing as we speak. When someone 7. cuts down trees, the ecological balance is destroyed. This 8. threatens all life on our planet, and unfortunately not many people 9. realise this. I 10. believe that taking part in this bike ride is one thing I can do to make people aware of the problem.”
