How Elephants Got Their Trunks
Once upon a time, in the days when elephants had very DIFFERENT noses than they do now, there lived a little elephant named, Piqua. Piqua was the brightest little elephant in his herd but he was always getting into trouble because of his great sense of CURIOUSITY. He couldn't help it, Piqua wanted to know everything. One day, took the DECISION to find out what crocodiles are for their lunch every day. He just had to know, so off he went in the DIRECTION of the river to ask. When he got to the river he climbed CAREFULLY down the bank to talk to a crocodile that was sunning itself there.
Now, this crocodile was very UNFRIENDLY and when Piqua asked him what he had for his lunch every day, he grabbed Piqua's nose and QUICKLY pulled him into the river. It must have been Piqua's UNLUCKY day because at that exact moment a python, one of the strongest snakes in the world, was passing by.
The python saved Piqua's LIFE but his nose was changed forever.
Because of the crocodile's pulling, Piqua's nose wasn't short anymore. And that 1is why, even today, elephants have such LONG noses!
