Samuel: Hello, Frank! Where are the newspapers?

Frank: They are here on the counter, Mr. Bradley. I've brought them inside because of the rain. They get all wet on the stall outside.

s: Anything startling in the news tonight?

E: The same old things, Mr. Bradley just happening to different people. One man robs a bank, another murders his wife, a third jumps out of the fifth story. Only the names and addresses change…

s: Before I forget it, Frank, and my wife gives me the devil, I want a couple of packs of cigarettes and a half dozen good cigars. We're having some company at our house tonight. Give me one pack of Camels, one of Lucky Strikes and one of Chesterfields. You can pick whatever cigars you think best.

F: What about a box of candies for the ladies?

S.: My wife will take care of the ladies.

F: How's your wife, Mr. Bradley? She used to come in here occasionally, but I haven't seen her in for several months.

S: She keeps busy with the house and her various bridge clubs. Also her mother has been sick. That has taken a lot of her time.

F: I understand that your wife came from a very fine family.

S.: Came? She seems to bring it with her! My mother-in-low has been practically "living" with us for about six months. We also have my wife’s distant cousins with us from time to time. We are constantly having somebody with us.

F.: I see… By the way, Mr. Bradley, do you happen to know the penalty for bigamy?

S.: No, what is it?

F.: Two mothers-in-law.

S.: Oh, That's an awful penalty indeed. Well, Frank, how's your business going? It seems you've put in some additional merchandise, recently, haven't you? As far as I remember, you've been selling only newspapers and magazines for years.

F: Yes, you are right, Mr. Bradley. But I put in a line of greeting cards a week ago. I’m also planning to put in a rental library as soon as I can make space at the back of the store. As far as you can see, we're pretty crowded. All the shelves are full up to ceiling. We don't have any cellar to store merchandise, so we keep our stationery supplies just here in the store.

S.: You really carry quite a line, don't you?

F.: We sell writing paper, typewriting paper and new typewriter, envelopes, fountain pens, erasers and various small items like paper clips, thumb-tacks, scotch-tape, mucilage. Besides, I carry over a hundred different monthly and weekly magazines. Then I also have a candy display. You'd be amazed at the number of cheap candy bars I sell in one day

s.: I'm glad, you're doing so well, Frank. I've been your customer for several years, so I know you work pretty hard

F: I’m in this store twelve hours every day, Mr. Bradley from 9 in the morning until 9 at night. What can I do? I have to look after my business. I even seem to enjoy it.

s.: Well, It’s your own business, and you're your own boss. That's the important thing! F.: You bet it is so.
