I think you should get a dog! They are a big task though but that doesn't mean they cause lots of trouble, you just got to keep a good eye on them.
You could get a cat, they are very simple and mellow animals. Hamsters are very easy to take care of as well, but i think you'd have way more fun owning a pet dog.
