Thanks for your letter. I wish I'd been at that party and had fun with all of you! I usually have birthday parties. I invite some of my class- mates and closest friends. Besides birthdays my friends have New Year's parties, but I don't attend them since New Year is a family celebration here. My favorite celebration is Halloween, which has become popular here. However it's not allowed in my school, that's why my friends and I have Halloween parties at home. We dress up in costumes have snacks and drinks play jokes, dance and tell scary stories. Sometimes our parents join us. I really think this day is for fun! Tell me about your grandma's visit. How long did she stay? What did you do? Does she live far away? Write soon!
Love,
Benom

Dear Ben, How's it going? It was so nice of you to drop me a line. There are a lot of holidays in Russia: New Year, April Fool's day etc. But my favorite is Maslenitsa. It comes either at the end of February or at the beginning of March, it's moveable festival. It usually lasts from Monday till Sunday. This holiday means the end of winter and the spring coming. I like this festival because during this holiday people visit each other, children play snowballs, light bonfires, enjoy horse-sledging. But the main reason of my adoration is "blini", the old Russian dish. Lent follows Maslenitza, it is the strictest and long holiday, it lasts 7 weeks. During these weeks people avoid eating fat meals, meat and there are few entertainments. People must work hard, pray and clean their soul. I think you should visit Russia and visit this great festival. I hope I'll see you soon! With love, [Name]
